Annotations - The Arts; Music

Description

As part of the Music Pedagogy and practice unit I created a unit plan based on Music in Film for year 7 students with accompanying test, project and project rubric. The unit is based around the guiding question of ‘Why is music important in film and how does it help convey emotion?’ in which students explore the question and create their own music composition.  The feedback received was very positive towards the unit,  Catherine Stringer commented “This is an extremely well organised and balanced Plan. You have strong continuity between lessons which leads to good scaffolding. Your assessment tasks have been integrated into the Unit and will effectively demonstrate the students’ learning”.

Personal Philosophy

Being a music teacher I believe it is important for the arts to be incorporated into the daily classroom as much as possible. The various art forms encourage students to use their imagination and express themselves.

Other Theory

“Music as an artistic form of expression has been used by every culture throughout history. It engages us emotionally but also intellectually” (Gibson, 2011). Music has been identified as one of the multiple intelligences(Gardner, 1983) making it an essential part of any well-balanced curriculum (Gibson, 2011)
